Co-Creating with Nature
I design and build one-of-a-kind heirloom furniture.
Because I make minor alterations to the wood I work with, I like to describe what I do as co-creating with nature.
I live in the forest, on an island, and am daily surrounded by nature’s artistry. For most of my life I have sought solace in forest or garden. The former to feed my soul, the latter to feed my belly. Hiking in wilderness and digging in the soil have given me the calm and focus to inspire rustic artistic design.
For the past 25 years that collaboration has created tables, clocks, mirrors, stools, obelisks, settees, and especially, unique and whimsical chairs.
You can find my work in art markets and fairs, and I also enjoy working on commissions.
I invite you to contact me to discuss a commission, or visit my gallery to select an heirloom piece that you can treasure for generations to come.
Artist’s Statement
I was first inspired to work with wood in the early 1980s watching Roy Underhill’s The Woodwright’s Shop program on PBS. My earthy tendencies as a gardener and experiences with homesteading projects introduced me to the practical uses of wood. That early work eventually grew into artistic design with natural wood.
Today I create original, handcrafted furniture and home decor that celebrate the natural form and character of sustainably harvested Northwest woods.
My work has been shown in art markets and Fairs, but commissions have been a mainstay as well. Hunter’s Repose was shown in the juried arts fair in Anacortes and the Tete-a-tete was featured in Mountain Living magazine.
